I found a great model on Etsy to be the Be'lakor in my 40k Chaos Demon army. And while working on it, I couldn't help but think about why I needed the model in the first place.
My 40k army needed a big guy - or more to the point, several big guys. One Greater Demon just won't cut it in a world of tanks the travel in groups, primarchs that won't die, and models with toughness 12 or higher that can occupy an objective all day and fire weapons out to 36".
Even if I wanted to field 2000 points of squishy infantry (and paint it all!), it just isn't a consistent winner, because my opponents best guns are located in his most survivable models. And believe me - space marines can pack a lot of guns into one Repulsor tank! At some point, tactically speaking, those guns must be removed from the battlefield or I suffer the rain of lead all day. That's where the big guys come in.
They come with high toughness, decent speed, some buffs... but they also usually bring a "light sabre". In slang terms, a light sabre is a weapon that will cut through anything (hence the obvious connection we nerds make). And it is that weapon that helps me crush a Repulsor in one charge and combat round when it has 16 frikin' wounds to chew through. Tank gone, guns gone, problem gone. So - Big guys become an auto include. Just ask the Dark Angles players about the Lion.
So Be'lakor has to be in my list or I really can't win. So big guys have to get into every list I have, or I really can't win. So auto include your Avatar Aeldari, and call up Roboute Guilliman Ultramirines.
I know the score.
