When I was a kid, and the boxed GW game Space Marine came out, it came with marines and eldar. I painted up both sides poorly of course.
I was fascinated by the space elves of the Eldar (now the Aeldari), but could never get them to look the way they should. Those tiny models gave me no chance as a new painter, so they languished in an ugly blue and red for years.
After that, I went on painting. I painted orcs, vampires and deamons for Warhammer Fantasy, historicals of all kinds, planes, and ships - but never the Eldar.
Over the years, the line of models for Aeldari got better and better. The original Falcon Grav Tank was a frikin' cheese wedge mounting a center line gun, and the evolved version was like a sleek weapon of war with bladed fins and a turret.
Bu the time has come. In the 40k lore, the Aeldari see through time, pick through futures, and find the path of causality that suits them (and their survival) best. Maybe they saw it was not my time back then.
Now, after all these years, I have plunged into trying to paint an Aeldari army all over again. And while I may not have progressed light years forward with my paining, I'm trying my best to do the space elves justice.
I chose the Ulthwé Aeldari in their original black and yellow scheme - just to drive myself mad all over again. GW changed their coloring to a tan and black, maybe to take mercy on their painters. Who knows?
The colors fight to work right, and I rage, but I go on.
Maybe I will never own a truly beautiful Aeldari army, but I don't think I mind. At least not enough to stop me from trying - like when I was a kid.
This Wave Serpent is fully magnetized and the rear door opens for storage of extra parts and pieces.
